Many people live their lives meandering from day to day, without any sense of what their vision of a well-lived life may be, or what their mission to accomplish with their days on earth might be.
It’s useful to state your vision of a good life and your mission to work toward in words, so that you can check your actions and activities against those statements. These statements are positive affirmations of your life, actualized through your use of money.
The best form in which to phrase these statements is one of intention, so that your vision and mission are framed as goals. Examples of visions might begin in this way:
“My vision is of a world in which:
- All children are well-educated
- All people have access to health resources
- All individuals have the pleasure of learning world languages, etc. “
In contrast, your Mission will focus on the actions you plan to take:
“My mission is to:
- Help others gain access to physical activity
- Help illuminate the social issue of __________
- Spread awareness of ___________ “
It’s also helpful to include a few words about strategies through which you might achieve those goals. Examples of such strategies might include:
- Through awareness and empowerment…
- Through my skills as an educator and advocate…
- Through my connections to the _______ industry….
- Through collaboration with ________ …
Knowing what you most hope to accomplish with your time and resources, you can reshape your budget to focus on expenditures that get your closer to those goals. This may also help you plan your time and calendar to give you the most fulfillment throughout each week and month.
So what’s your life’s money vision and mission?
